A Guy’s Perspective on Twilight
Recently, I, a normal guy, read “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer. This is my evaluation of what a guy thinks about Twilight.
In the past few month’s I have been reading. sounds normal right? What if I told you what I was reading, would you still consider it normal? For a guy to be reading…Twilight…would you think that’s normal? I certainly have my reasons, I assure you that. You see, curiosity is a funny thing.
Like everyone, I saw this fad pickup with immense speed. Bookstores held millions of copies, and all you heard from people (particularly girls) was “Twilight, Edward, Twilight, Edward!” Apparently, Stephenie Meyer must have come up with one heck of a good series of books, because it was EVERYWHERE. Heck, even walking into Wal-Mart you will see an entire shelf dedicated to the works of Meyer, “The Twilight Saga.” For those who do not know, there are four books in the “Twilight saga.” The first is Twilight, followed by New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.
Why did I choose to read it though? To be honest I was curious about what made every girl in the world go completely psycho over it. Of course all I had heard about it was Edward, and how “perfect” he is. Finally, after the counsel of some of my female friends I decided to pick up a copy. I began reading it the next day.
To be Honest, the beginning of Twilight was very slow, and actually bored me. But I was still determined to find out why it made the average girl so… obsessive. I came to enjoy it as the story went along. It became almost addicting to read. Like a mystery, it kept me wondering, What happens next, What will I learn about the Cullens, and what is the main plot of the story.
Around the spot in the story when Bella went to Port Angeles was where i really got hooked. The story began to unfold, and we learn a lot more about the vampiric characteristics of one of the main character, Edward Cullen. The plot begins to thicken when Bella learns that Edward is constantly tempted to kill her by his thirst for her blood, even though they both want to have a solid relationship. I don’t want to spoil to much of the story so I’ll leave the rest to you.
Overall, I actually thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It’s not just a cheesy romance novel. The plot is so complex and intertwined I actually had fun using my brain to keep up with the plot. It is so easy to connect with the heavily described characters, making a great image of humanistic qualities. And also, the vampires are really cool
The movie was also great, and very well put together. The acting in it was simply amazing. I liked the film for the content though, unlike the 90% teenage female audience that was screaming the entire movie over Edward and the other vampire males. It went hand-in-hand with the book as far as following the storyline.
What makes girls so obsessive though? Now, Ive seen girls that are addicted to the story as if it were Harry Potter simply because they genuinely support and enjoy literature (and a great piece of literature it was). Like my mother for example, who picked up the series and read all four books in two weeks. Others won’t admit it, but what they are really addicted to is Edward, who would apparently make the perfect boyfriend. They are actually obsessing over a fantasy! Well, fantasy at least until they could obsess over the actor who plays him, Robert Pattinson.
The point I’m trying to get across guys, is don’t be afraid to read it. Don’t think just because your reading a romance about a “perfect” guy, with a girl as the main character, doesn’t make you “gay” or give you a reason to feel “gay”. In my opinion, its the stupidest thought ever if you’re thinking that. Take Romeo and Juliet for example, it is one of the most popular pieces of literature in the world, and has been for quite some time. But you wouldn’t feel any different reading that would you? I think you get my point. Trust me, I’m on the third book and I feel great that I’ve read this series.
Overall, this book was great. I sincerely recommend it to anyone who has the time to take to really enjoy this book, and the entire series! Id also like to share Twilighters.org because it is a great site! If your a twilight fan, its a realy cool place to get the latest news, or learn virtualy every thing twilight.
Liked it

Zombie are stil teh best!
i liked the movie … but they could have chosen a prettier actress for the lead .. in my opinion
This is awesome!
I ENJOYED READING THE BOOKS. THEY ARE AMAZING AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I AM OBSESSED WITH THEM…. THAT SOUNDS DUMB BUT IM NOT AFRAID TO ADMIT IT. I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M SO OBSESSED ABOUT AND ACTUALLY IT’S NOT EDWARD… I THOUGHT ABOUT IT BUT IM NOT… NOT ANY OF THE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY…. I THINK I JUST REALLY LIKE THE WORDS AND HOW MRS. MEYER DESCRIBES EVERYTHING! I DO BELIVE THEY COULD HAVE CHOSED BETTER ACTORS… MAYBE A DIF BELLA (she blinks WAY to much and just seem like the Bella in the books the bella in the books is much more…. um better i’m not sure a a good word to describe her but that’s what i think) EDWARD IS ACTUALLY A REALLY GOOD CHOICE AND I THINK JACOB IS TOO… IN THE BOOKS IT SAYS HES YOUNGER LOOKING AND I THINK THE CHOICE OF MR. STRAIT IS A GOOD IDEA BECAUSE OF HOW JACOB CHANGES IN THE BOOKS. PEOPLE SHOULDN’T BE LIKING THE MOVIES BECAUSE OF THE ACTORS, THEY SHOULD BE LIKING THE MOVIES FOR THE WORDS AND HOW EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK IS PUT TOGETHER… I REALLY HOPE PEOPLE SEE THIS AND ARE GLAD THAT THEY ARE EVEN MAKING NEW MOON A MOVEIE!!!! I AM!!!!!!!!!!
to TWILIGHT, i know what you mean, im obsessed too, and happy to be so, i read all books in 5 days literally one after the other, and have read each book at least 3 times i never get bored of it,and midnight sun ofc. I love the book because of how stephenie portrayed the emotion and love and the personality of each character, ofc we wouldnt like the movie bella because we were not the movie bella lol but i loved the movie i hate when people complain about the effects but acting is important the movie was not about its budget it was making sure the emotion and feelings and chemistry were there, but i think they should have shown bella’s more intelligent stubborn mature side more, she seemed a bit like everyone else in it, but when she was with edward she was perfect how i imagined her to be, maybe thats what they wanted us to think
this is awesome. its cool to know that at least one guy actually reads and likes twilight. i am obsessivley in love wit the series and i thought the movie was amazing
Yes Twilight, I AM ODSESSED WITH THE TWILIGHT SAGA 2 AND I AM NOT AFRAID 2 ADMIT IT. As a matter of fact, i am re-read TWILIGHT again for the millionth time. jk. I never get bored with it. It is just a great book series 2 read. IDK WHAT IT IS I AM ODSESSED WITH. Seriously. I think that it is a AWSOME BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also how Stephenie describes the characters and the emotions in the books. She just gets really into the moment and that is what i like when i am reading a book. And yes EDWARD might have somethng 2 do with my obsession. LOL.
Good read bro. I too am a guy that read the books and got hooked. I picked it up after my sister read it, and read the other three shortly after.
I love the series but my mom keeps yelling at me if I read them more than once. I read New Moon for the third timwe last night, and this morning I got yelled at by my mom AND sister. So, I am an OBSESSED FAN AND PROUD OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers for the post. I am quite taken by these books and enjoy all of the plots and intricacies of each character. I took my bro to see the movie and he has started reading them too. Neither gay not stupid is the boy! When you finish all of them… we’ll get some wings and beer to reaffirm your manhood and talk about the books!!!
Dude. KUDOS.!
Hands down to you.
You nailed it all.
in the second paragraph, “copy’s” should be spelled “copies.” “copy’s” is the possessive form of the singular noun “copy,” while “copies” is the plural (nonpossessive, which I believe was your intended meaning) of the singular noun “copy.”
if you are writing a book review, i figured that grammatical correctness was favorable.
You are so in my cool list:)
i’m more obessed with the intensity of love that bella and edward has! its how they try to overcome every obstacles in their way and still love each other!
and rob lol.
your review on the Twilight saga is great :)…I Completely agree with you, there beautiful books/movie and i thought you covered it thoroughly and straight to the point :).
wow, from guy perspective you’re review really amazing me. I’m not girl but i love twilight saga too.
from far away twilighter in indonesia.
Haha…its nice to see that a guy doesnt feel bad about reading it. I read a book once that talked about how love novels/chick flicks are female porn…and i for one think that is True! I resently started my own spin on vampires(yes…twilight somewhat sparked it)but I tried to stick away from the love part. I have been meaning to pick up twilight and read it as I would like to know more, but its good to see that it’s more a good peice of literature than a romance novel. Thank you for showing me that even guys can enjoy a book/movie, even if it’s a massive babe movie lol.
I totally agree!!!
I red the first book in 3 days and the second book in 4. i just cant stop reading:)
edward is not the only reason i love the books, i love them because they are so well written.
since i read the other two books so fast i have had a long break not reading the next 2( i want them to last longer)
the movie was grat too!!
i just wanted to say to Crushsickels that bella isent suppose to be so pretty! she is pretty but not the obvius ways, she was only pretty in her one speicial way.
i think Kristen Stewart is really pretty(especially on the vf fotoshoot)
I’ve read all for books of the series. I love them. MY thing I have with the books is that I loved the romance of both Edward and Bella. I thought thier love was very strong. That’s just because I beleive that everyone.should be so lucky.
Good to hear that a man does some research into women and what intrigues them. I haven’t read Twilight yet - but I may now.
About the “prettier” actress post…
Kristen is pretty..BUT Bell isn’t supposed to be “gorgeous”. Not in her own eyes anyway. In her eyes (remember the book in written from her POV) she is less than average.
Rosalie (blonde vampire) is the “gorgeous” one.
Really, we learn, Bell is pretty. Not drop dead gorgeous, but pretty. So, no, I think Kristen was a good choice. If they get to Breaking Dawn, making her into a “gorgeous” vampire will be interesting.
so i know what u mean because i forced my bf to read it i mean he is straight up thug like and is super against anything that makes him look gay…he even hates reading..but he got into the books..so im pretty sure that there are other guys who would fall in love with the series
It is nice to know that there are guys who actually appreciate how wonderfully written the books are. I am not a teenager, but I truly enjoyed the books and the movie. Thank you for your imput. It may actually show some men out there that it is okay to like romance.
I have three of the four books, have read them and found that the third book is the best out of those…I have yet to read Breaking Dawn. I thought the first one was okay. Then I thought the second one was worse. But the fact that there are werewolves in the third one and a deeper storyline, that is what makes me like it the best.
My reason for not caring about the first two books is because I didn’t much like Bella.
Am I the only sane human left? the vampires can go out in daylight without dying, that’s kind of a no-no in anythign having to do with vampires. This book is about emo kids who drink animal blood. F–.

I think you would love his site! Thanks for the great article!
I knew about the film but I picked up the first book. I read it and to my surprise it was realy cool. This is a good series to read but I heared that each book gets better.
Ha, being a guy I can see why the females like it.
It’s not just for girls but for any man, young or old should read it. This just took my breath away.
I think you are right. Guys shouldn’t be afraid to read that book. It’s a good book. Love the movie. Needed a prettier girl though for the lead actress. Robert Pattinson is extremely gorgeous in that movie. He wasn’t very attractive in Harry Potter and the goblet of fire. Anyways, I don’t think it’s gay when a guy reads that book.
i couldn’t agree with you more
i know 3 guys that have read the twilight series and absolutely love them…
You should read This

I’m so happy for you! I love it when a guy reads it and finds out it’s not some stupid love story! And yes you got it right that everyone loves Edward.
Good piece. I can totally relate to your experience with Twilight. At first I thought it was just some corny teen romance that happened to involve vampires, and was dubious when my sister recommended it. Now, I’m sooo glad she made me read the first one! I’ve read the whole series twice, and loved [almost] every word of it. The third was the best, I think.
I admit the books were great, but I delayed reading them when I saw them in stores and such. Not sure why, but I thought it would be some stupid corny romance novel where most of the people die, and the rest live happily ever after. When my friend got unbearable, I finally read it. Loved the first book, not so much the second, and loved the third. The fourth? Ouch. It felt like Stephanie Meyer just hired some fan girl to write it for her (my obsessed friend made me read a few fan fiction stories.) especially I hated the happily ever after, where everyone is happy. Doesn’t happen. I’d feel a lot better if at least one of them died, just to add a spoon of spice into the honey.
I give you props for this article. My wife is crazy about Twilight, and its nice to hear a non-obsessive article about it. If you want to continue on this run, then maybe you should check out the Anita Blake books. I am not sure about other parts of the country, but a whole lot of people around here are crazy about the series.
Well-written review! Great job!
Are you slightly gay?
Excellent review!
Wow! Great review!!
When i first read The twilight saga, (i’ll admit it!) I thought it was more of a girl book…but lately I’ve seen LOTS of guys reading it too and, actually, it’s cool.
I think that guys should’t be afraid of reading the books. They are amazing. And guys who read Twilight, according to me, are NOT gay! They are actually really cool.
I think the book has the right amount of adventue, the right amount of supernatural, the right amount of comique AND it’s a love story…so It was great.
Because of me, all my friends(girls and guys) read them and absolutely loved them!!
And, you are SO right: Vampires are cool!!
**PS: ADVICE FOR A GUY: READ TWILIGHT! IT WILL BE A GREAT WAY TO START A CONVERSATION WITH A GIRL THAT IS A TWILIGHT FAN. GIRLS ALWAYS LOVE IT WHEN GUYS SHARE THEY “PASSION”. **
Hya nice
I am honestly pleased to find a guy who like Twilight. No one else has taken the time to see that it is more than a series of romance novels written to make girls drool over a fictional character. Stephenie Meyer is one of my all time favorite authors and I don’t read and reread the Twilight saga because of Edward or any one character in particular. I have read all four books and all but the last one I have read many times. The way she has the characters interact is amazing and you never get bored with reading about any one person. All four of the books are absolutely wonderful and would advise anyone and everyone to read them.
I loved the books. I was very obsessed with them when I first started reading them. But I am a teenage girl. They were so addicting. I couldnt stop. I found myself talking about it as often as possible and boring people with it. But I couldnt help it because I just loved them so much. I read them VERY quickly. Twilight took me from the time I got home from school until 3 in the morning. I couldnt stop. It may have been how edward acted, how perfect he seemed. I know there will never be a guy out there like that but I was extremely jealous of belle. I couldnt stop. When the series was over I couldnt stop thinking about it. I wanted MORE!!!!!!!!! I am not so obsessed anymore. I went to see the movie like every other teenage girl and enjoyed it. But they were very good. I enjoyed the movie and books both!
anyways your article was very good. Thank you for sharing that.
check out my stuff?
Good, solid review. I’m thinking twice now about ny decision to boycott reading the books. As an avid reader, I’m more inclined to invest my time in highbrow lit. But I may dismount the high horse and check them out. I took my little sis to see the film and wrote a review of that so if you’re interested it’s on my Triond page. Thanks.
Really good review from a guys perspective. i love the twilight series alot. i am obessed, me and my friend both read the whole series in 4 days and have not stopped reading them over and over. its not boring. i dont think i am obessed with edward, sure he is the “perfect” guy but its the way the books are written that is so amazing. i didnt really like the movie because for me to like it it would have to be a copy of the book into a movie and it wasnt. but anyway i think that guys should read this book. also i recommend going on stephenie meyers website and looking at midnight sun to really see edwards perspective.
I haven’t watch the movie. But, I am planning to…
faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag
You had me convinced up until
“The movie was also great, and very well put together. The acting in it was simply amazing.”
Then I realized nothing you say has any real value.
I thought it was just a teenagers thing, but now I’ve heard so much about the Twighlight phenomenon that I’m almost convinced that I’ll have to check it out…
Crushsickles, I’m glad you enjoyed the movie, but I would like to point out that Bella is not supposed to be “pretty,” but “average.” Of course, as he tells her many times, Edward thinks she is much more than beautiful.
Ha, i guess im not the only normal guy to read twilight and admit to it too. well in my opinion twilight is amazing. its not just some dumb teen girl book, anyone can read it. there is a character than anyone can relate to and sympathize with. i really enjoyed reading this series. i read all four books plus midnight sun on stephenies webisite. i really hope she does write midnight sun cuz its alot easier to relate to edwards point of view than bellas. still great books. i hope that more guys read it so they can see how good it really is. i guess for now tho im stuck being one of the few in my school to actually read it. o well. great review by the way. it was very true.
i have to admit that when i first started reading twilight, i was a little smitten over edward’s character. as i continued to read the series though, i found him to be a little TOO obsessed with bella, especially in breaking dawn.
No one should read the Twilight Saga…it a terrible menace to vampire novel enthusiasts and people in general everywhere. The book lacks plot, character development and oft times proper grammar. Bella (who is a pathetic excuse for a main character) is not particularly pretty, smart, funny, quirky, interesting, engaging, talented, likable or very much anything…she is shallow, insipid, dull and nobody. I know that there are many millions of deluded Meyer Maniacs who would instant spout their love of Bella, Edward (who is actually a HUGE creeper) and the Twilight Saga in general, but if they would actually take the time to READ the book, they would also find it quite lacking in the basic elements of literature as did I.
I attacked the Twilight saga with the same vigor, and curiosity, and some urging from my girlfriend. Overall, Ms. Meyer does a very good job with the story, forming characters, and creating riveting twists. I can easily attack her writing, and the editing of the stories, but all-in-all it is easy to get around these flaws to enjoy the story.
I did fight to avoid this, but I am glad I succumbed, and being the proud regular reader I am, I have not even been embarrassed to tell my friends of my recent story.
ya im a guy and i loved all the books and the movies while all the girls think edward is hot i think bella is hot:) cant wait for new moon
