Brisinger of Fire

I picked up the new book of the Inheritage series and read it from beginning to end. Eragon is up to his old tricks , but it seemed that the character hadn’t grown up at all.

This time around the story took longer to tell and it felt like it was reading a Tolkien book. It still has the sense of what the first two books has but Chris has now gone into more depth’s to describe the country side and how each character feels. It doesn’t have anything that might excite you, but in some scenes it does get better.

Eragon still has this thing that killing is wrong, but when you see an old enemy that you thought dead. You would think he would kill him, instead he took pity on Sloan and lied to his cousin. That wasn’t surprising at all, but when he healed himself by taking the life away from plants I simply thought nothing of it.

This is a good book to read but it has its flaws like many books out there. It seems to me that Chis is trying to be a bit more like Tolkien , going into too much depth and not focusing on the main story. As much it is good it’s not excellent. One of the things I know is that, you need to draw in the reader and not lose their interest.

On many nights, I felt like giving up but I didn’t. This so called book series, could have been longer. Once in a while I do like to read other fantasy books to get my interest, but this one just didn’t get my full interest at all nor get excited over the characters since they seemed played out.

I would have taken it in another direction, something I will point out Chris. Instead of focusing on the main characters, I would have focused on the main villian and his legion. It would have been far better and a lot more interesting to see, and every once in a while bring in the two cousins.

Eragon may be the main character, but there has to be other characters that you haven’t even thought of. But the thing is, it looks like your writing is getting a little sloppy. My opinon, not yours but do take a look at your earlier books and take notice how much has changed.

Are you sure you want to do four books. Why not seven?

In all Brisinger is okay to read, just don’t get too excited though since the story is slightly lacking.  I sure hope book four will be a lot more better.

I agree with the above comment in that there were many instances I found myself skipping through way too detailed text hoping to get back to the momentous moments that the author is capable of. I struggled through this book (and put it aside many times due to run-on,for a better word, \’book clutter\’), and to my dissapointing amazement, Chris decided not to bring me to the end of this incredable story as I expected. Instead he said \’another book\’. If I were like my daughter who peeks at the end of a book after reading a chapter or two (I tell her this is not a good thing to do!)I would have abandoned this book after Aragon ran back to dwarfs and had to sit and wait while I the reader had to sit and wait until the Menoa tree thing. Anyway, I will not give up hope and will read the condensed version of book 4,5,6… until I have had enough. Good luck Chris! From (interestingly enough a 55 yo Mom who bought Aragon for her 10 yo daughter whom never opened the book!)
