Eldest

A review that I wrote for a great book that everyone should read at least once.

Eldest is the sequel to an awesome book called Eragon. Eragon came out two to three years before Eldest did. We got Eldest as soon as it came out and it is as good as the first one. The author of Eragon is only just now eighteen.

If you like books about elves, dwarves, magic and dragons then you will love Eragon and Eldest. Although they are nothing like boring Harry potter books, they are full of action and excitement. But you have got to read them in order or else you will never understand what is happening.

Eldest is about a teenager named Eragon and a dragon named Saphira. Eragon is a rider, an ancient group of peace keepers. They have been around for thousands of years. Although about a century ago the rider Galbatorix turned against the riders and killed them all with his group of evil riders called the forsworn. He only managed to keep three dragon eggs alive and still has them except for Sapphira.

Eragon is traveling to the elves to complete his training and become a fully-fledged rider. In the previous book though Eragon was wounded and left with a scar that pains him horribly whenever he moves the wrong way. He was wounded in a battle in Farthen Dur against The Shade (evil magician) Durza and his army of Urgals. Farthen Dur is a rebel city that fights Galbatorix’s rule. He manages to kill the shade and escape. During his training he is often wracked with pain from the scar.

When Eragon, Saphira and their escort reach Ellesmera, the elves city, they find that Eragon and Saphira are not the only ones of their kind. An elven rider named Oromis and his dragon Glaedr still are alive in Ellesmera. Although they are far to injured to fight, Oromis was injured when Galbotorix and the Forsworn captured and tortured him, while Glaedr’s front foreleg is cut off. They are to be Eragon and Saphiras teachers and teach them fighting, magic, and Arial skills for Sapphira.

At the end of the story galbatorix attacks the Varden who have merged with Surda a rebel country to the south of the empire. Eragon rushes over hundreds of miles to help the Varden and Surda defeat the empire and win the war. Will he be in time, will he defeat galbatorix well you will just have to read the books for yourself and find out. Oh yeah a new Rider appears and attacks Eragon during the battle. So if you want to find out what happens next you will have to read the next book in the series of three.
