I actually had to do quite a bit of searching to get these meanings. Some sites had different meanings than others, and some didn’t have records of all the names. I tried to find the best descriptions possible, although some were still not found no matter where I looked. I didn’t do the full list of names that you find in the index of Breaking Dawn, there are just so many. But I did do quite a chunk of the most popular characters!
     Some of the names fit very well to the character of the books, while others are the complete opposite of the person’s personality. If you really think deep into the descriptions, you’ll find them quite interesting in how they fit, or in some cases oppose!

Edward- Wealth protector/wealthy guard (He’s rich, and he protects Bella!)
Bella- My God is a vow
Rosalie- Of A Rose
Emmett- Strong Worker; Strength; Universal; All Containing (Got that one right!)
Alice- Truth, Noble
Jasper- Semi-Precious Stone (Vampires are described as hard as stone. ?)
Carlisle- From the protected tower; from the walled city. (This is crazy accurate of once being from Volterra!)
Esme- Esteemed; Loved
Renesmee- Reborn; Esteemed; Loved
Jacob- Supplanter; held by the heel
Sam- God’s Word
Leah- Weary
Seth- Appointed
Embry- Ember, Smolding fire
Quil- Descendant of Coll (This doesn’t describe much, but was the only one I found.)
Paul- Small; humble (Think they missed on this one.)
Jared- Down To Earth
Collin- Dove
Brady- Broad Shouldered
James- Supplanter
Laurent- Crowned With Laurel
Victoria- Winner, Conqueror (Good thing she lost in the book!)
Renee- Reborn
Charlie- Free Man
Mike- Who is like God?
Eric- Honorable Ruler
Jessica- Wealthy
Angela- Angelic
Eleazar- God Has Helped
Carmen- Song
Irina- Peaceful
Kate- Pure, Virginal
Tanya- Fairy Queen
Aro- Hard, Relatively infertile, Wet as a swamp
Marcus- War Like
Caius- Rejoice
Alec- Protector Of Men (Don’t think so.)
Jane- Gracious, Merciful (Oh so wrong on this one!)
Demetri- One who loves the earth.
Zafrina : Mysterious, shadowed beauty (I think this fits her well.)
Vladimir : To rule with greatness, peacemaker
Alistair : Defending men
Garrett : Strength of the spear

     And an interesting thing I found about Robert Pattinson is the meaning of his name! Just thought I’d share it! Robert means “Bright Fame”. Guess his parents got that one right!
