Twilight: Why Girls and Even Young Moms Envy Bella Swan

The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer are the best selling novels of the decade. The four novels have sold over 42 million copies worldwide, with translations into 37 different languages around the globe (Wikipedia) and are well-loved by teenagers, young professionals and even young moms. The saga is an unusual love story between a simple human, Isabella “Bella” Swan and a perfect good looking vampire, Edward Cullen.  The fans just can’t get enough and had to watch it again and again.  Edwards’s vampire charms really captured the hearts of millions worldwide and made the main characters portrayed by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson A-listers overnight.

Bella Swan is the envy of many girls around the world.  Almost everybody wants to win the heart and marry a man like Edward Cullen and she is so lucky to have captured his heart.  The thought of Edward being a vampire is nothing compared to who he really is – how good and kindhearted he is, how protective he is of Bella and how he strongly fights his thirst for human blood just to avoid being a monster and to follow the values his foster father, Carlisle Cullen has instilled in him.

So, why do girls want to be in her shoes ?

1. The book describes Bella Swan as an ordinary girl.  However, even if she is just simple and ordinary, she is the envy of many girls in her school.  Boys her age want to be with her and dreams of being her man – Mike, Eric, Tyler, Jacob the werewolf and the very good looking vampire, Edward.
2. She knows what she wants and she does her best to get it.  She maybe shy but she decides which direction to take.  She doesn’t care of what other people would say and even if her werewolf friends are against of her relationship with Edward, she fights for it even to the extent of endangering her life in the hands of the world’s most dangerous predators.
3. Edward genuinely loves and cares for her.  He has no loyalty issues and wherever Edward would be, she doesn’t have to worry as she knows she is secured of her relationship with him and that Edward will always be faithful to her.
4. The whole Cullen family loves her.  They protected her against the dangerous and obsessive tracker, James,  who wanted to drink her sweet blood and kill her. Rosalie though is against of the relationship as she is afraid this might endanger the lives of the whole family but still, she helped the whole family protect Bella.
5. Above all, Edward, who is the fantasy of every girl is madly in love with her and would do his best and even exchange immortality with death just to protect her and keep her safe.

The next movie in the Twilight saga, New Moon, is now being filmed in Canada and is set to come out on November 20, 2009. I love Twilight and I can’t wait to watch New Moon.  I’m sure Twilighters all over the world are now so excited for the sequel.
