A How To Guide For Manga

Manga is a Japanese style of cartooning.

This is my guide to Manga. I am not a professional, yet I look a sketches of this every day. This is hard to explain so I will use pictures. If you are lost from the word Manga I’ll explain. It is just a Japanese style of cartooning. This normally involves big eyed characters. They also might have abnormal heads, in a big way. Follow this guide step by step and you too will be able to draw Manga.

Face Outline

OK you start by the head outline. This shape should be not an oval or a circle. It should almost have a point at the chin. Make the shape the way you want it because it can give a large impact about the charecter when the face is awkward. Then make a big + (note this should be erasable). When your done you will erase this. Here is a pic!

Hair Style

Here we are the second most important anime feature the hair. One face is totally changed by different hair styles. Here I will explain basic hair that falls around the face. Start with framing the head with some quick thin strokes. This will start off with the bangs. Then kinda round off the head with hair. Then finish up the rest of the hair with more light strokes. Now make it longer for a girl or shorter for a boy.

Eyes

The core of an manga character. This show there emotion and everything. Add two lines above they eye. The top should be thicker and they should meet on the end toward the other eye. * Note you can have them not meet but I don’t like it that way.* Then place a small line under the eye.  Make sure the eye is directly above the horizontal line of the +.

Nose & Mouth

Here is the easiest part of it. Place the nose right under the horizontal part of the +. You can do the nostrils flared. You can do a upside down 7. For the mouth just wing it till you like it. Add a few wrinkles around the mouth to make it more realistic.

Gaze at awesomeness or decide to retry.

So that is the end comment if you like it.
