Zero Manga Review

A manga called Zero by Park Sung Woo.

This manga is very new/old age. It’s old age because the story is set in early japan (about 1982) but new age because it’s story line is about a very new age sort of thing: certain human beings have the power of telekinesis.

Park Sung Woo’s amazing drawings are very clean and his style of drawing manga characters is so good that it will suck in many fans.

Zero is called Zero because the main character, Shuu, is also called a Zero Sample. Called such because the Zero Sample is meant to be the ultimate human telekinetic weapon. Basically Shuu is the equivalent to a suped up army soldier but he has some extra abilities like telekinesis and teleportation that he can use during battle to escape from or to kill enemies.

Unfortunately Shuu is also a 16 year old boy, and he also has two sisters that he has to look after. They were all born and raised in a government facility and the beginning of the manga shows that they have somehow managed to escape the government facility and are on the run.

Of course because they’ve lived in a government facility all their life, they have no idea about the real world, how it works and about human social situations such as school, the media, the complexity of love and friendship. So you can bet that there is always going to be some confusion, misunderstandings and basically a lot of trouble whenever they meet with other people.

Throughout the story they do meet with other people who have telekinetic abitlities and Shuu gets put into a school especially made for pupils with telekinetic abilities, so yes, you can expect a lot of fight scenes which Woo manages to pull off in a few pages.

Before you decide to rush off and buy this book I have to put a caution out there, because Zero does have some explicit content that would not be suitable for kids below 16. Especially some of the fight scenes and some other scenes in general. If you feel a bit quesy about seeing blood, even if it is in a comic book, then you might not want to read this. Also the book is a little on the dark side, if you thought that high school students were innocent kids, then reading this may change you mind.
