Who Moved My Cheese?
A thought provoking but simple book on the attitude of life.
Just read a wonderful book entitled “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson, M.D. Everyone should read this. It compare two mice with two people who are in a maze looking for cheese ( the cheese being anything you deisre – money- fame-career- relationship)- finding a huge supply of cheese in station C – putting on their slippers and getting comfortable.
I lost two jobs I loved last October because of politics between the two companies. I cried for over a month. I tried to get (both) jobs back…one lady had all the power…how could ONE person do this to me? I had worked so hard to go back to school while raising two children and trying to manage two home businesses. My new “career” traded me a 700 credit score for a chapter 7 bankruptcy and ruined my home life. It took me two years to build a clientele. This was not justice. Why Me? Who moved my cheese? – I realized that I had been waiting in Cheese Station C for my cheese to return. I was not taking action as I was waiting for my supply of cheese to return to the comfort zone I was familiar with) . I was so in denial!
I know now, if I had paid attention that my cheese was disappearing daily- I did not smell the mold – I was not ready for the change. The moral of the story:
1. Change Happens ( They keep moving the cheese)
2. Anticipate Change ( Get Ready for the cheese to Move)
3. Monitor Change ( Smell the Cheese Often so you know when it is getting old )
5. Adapt to Change Quickly ( The quicker you let go of old cheese the sooner you can enjoy new cheese)
6. Change ( Move with the cheese)
7. Enjoy Change ( Savor the adventure and enjoy the taste of new cheese)
8. Be ready to Change Quickly and Enjoy it Again ( They keep moving the cheese ).
