Poems About Poetry

A sprinkling of examples.

I am far too young to have earned a retrospective, but I recently noticed some recurring themes in my pieces and thought I might take a moment to share them with you thematically. Some of the pieces I posted before coming to anyone’s attention would enjoy another chance to make a first impression.

The first notion I noticed was that I often write about being a writer.

Come along and see what I mean.

Lexical Bagatelle – a love affair with words that has lasted my entire life.

The Source of My Power – Love fires up the ol’ poetic juices.

Foul Vowels – An exercise to write 11 line poetic stanzas using only words that contain a single vowel at a time. I dare you to try it. I double dirty dog dare you.

Thief of Words – addresses plagiarism, a topic I know a little something about.

Do Things Differently – breaks the poetic ‘fourth wall’

Dreams of a Poet – Considering what goes into poetry, and what comes out, why would anyone want to be a poet, anyway?

Why Poetry? – Why would a private person want to carve every thought into written form and spin it into the ether?

The Writer’s Group – dedicated to Thisisby.us, lovingly known as TIBU to writers who gathered there. Regrettably, TIBU is no more.

The Poet’s Curse – what starts out as a curse is shown to have certain – advantages.

Required Reading – combines two of my favorite things.

A Poetic Obituary for Don Adams – Obviously, a writing exercise. Poetry for it own sake, I suppose.

Lexeme vs. Delineation – Words vs Pictures in a showdown of titans!

The Garden of Poems – A fantasy, but it would be pretty cool, right?

Ditto. Unfortunately, I only have ten minutes left of my lunch break. I did read Lexical Bagatelle. Now that’s a piece of work that’ll make me feel stupid lol.
