The Poetic Voice in Love
Exploring the possibility or impossibility of the expression of true Love in words.
De Poeta Vox Voxis in Amor….
Can poetry truly illustrate how it feels to be in Love? Is it even possible to explain Love? Perhaps, but like the taste of sweet and tender fruit, and the beauty of an early blooming bud, it cannot be put into exacting words. Yet, we endeavor, perhaps futilely, to embody a flightful, almost frightful, spirit that runs through us like Cupid’s piercing arrows. And like a fatal wound that rips the former world apart, it frees us from our former flesh, while granting us a glimpse of Heaven’s heights. We surpass our pasts like tearing off old clothes and wearing new, exchanging dim memories for brighter futures. Hence, we are reborn as needy hearts, which live by only joining with our Love. Through time and space, through ages past and ages yet to come, through distance of a million miles we cross in one fateful leap, and fall, only to be caught in the unbreakable embrace of Love. Left speechless by our rapture such that all the earth shakes beneath our feet, and the sky above is brilliant and vivid as if on fire. And still, we feel compelled to speak and write, though bungling words are like the songs of birds, that cannot convey the depth of passion in our hearts, but more so echo undefinable, ineffable, and overwhelming joy. And so, for my part, I submit a verse or two with humble voice, not in search of compliment or praise, but in a sincere effort to capture that uncapturable, untamable, and irrepressible Loving Heart…
I beg thee, keep these humble
heartened words,
and shun them not
but let them fly like birds…
