Thoughts From a Genius

Sometimes we all fell that we are the best at what we do ,and sometimes others choose to beat you up for feeling this way.

Never thought so many writers would get so angry at a post about love poetry.

It’s amusing that everyone always seems to think there’s anger involved when someone points out that their work is sub-par, or that they’re a self-aggrandizing tool, or anything of that nature. It’s just a simple statement of fact, no different than pointing out that the sun is a bit bright or that when it rains, shit gets wet.

As i said I know I’m not the best but I also know that people who have a mean and spiteful personality are basically incapable of writing or understanding love poetry.

Contrary to popular belief, not being understood does not make you an artist.

Rutherfranc and Alistair are great,Haven’t read much of Spiritwalker and Top electrician to say,(by the way I like to read people work before making stupid comments about it ,or calling it trite,Stephen,onlywannabe,Drew..).

I read some of your work. It was nauseating and, quite frankly, exactly as I described it: trite and cliché. But, hey, let’s take a good look at it, alright?

An ocean away she waits, walking along the sand.

My beautiful island girl, if I could just hold her hand.

“Look, mom! I’m rhyming! POETRY!” You’re already digging into the clichés, too. The line “An ocean away she waits, walking along the sand” conjures up imagery that can be found in every crappy rom-com with a tropical setting since the dawn of time.

How lovely she looks in summer, her brown skin kissed by the sun.

She glows with natures beauty, to her my heart longs to run.

Is this a poem, or a nursery rhyme?

To wrap my arms around her, the joy of her perfect form.

Just thinking about her body me own becomes rather warm.

“Me own?” Is this a roleplaying exercise? Did you write this on Talk Like a Pirate Day? Did you snag this out of Blackbeard’s poetry journal?

Also, “rather warm”? Seriously? Deep, man. Think you could pick some verbiage that’s just a little bit more uninspiring? I know that when I think “emotionally moving poetry”, the first thing that comes to mind are adjectives that are as neutral as fucking possible modified by adverbs that really drive home the point of unmitigated emotional ambiguity.

To look into her eyes, the windows to her soul,

That’s weapons-grade cliché, and I have to take a break from reading this now because it’s just that bad. I’d be glad to finish later, but I think you get the point.

Also, free verse is the lowest form of poetry.

Here’s the thing about poetry. The problem with poetry, really. Poetry is an art form, and it’s as complicated and involved as any other art form, be it painting, sculpture, dance, music, and so on and so forth.

Most people can’t draw well, and they know this, so if you go to, say, Deviant Art, you don’t see post after post of people bragging about their latest stick figure drawing because they know they can’t draw. It probably helps that, for the most part, they really only had one or two art classes throughout their primary education, thus reinforcing their knowledge that they can’t draw.

Poetry, though – poetry is just words, right? And they probably spent at least 12 years of their life where someone made at least a small effort to show them how to cobble some letters together into something marginally (and I stress marginally) intelligible on a daily basis.

As a result of this, they think they can not only write, but that they can write artistically – so they sit down, hammer together some early afternoon soap opera dialogue in such a way that it rhymes, and then we end up with the above “poetry”.
