Want to Hear and See Edgar Allan Poe Read Poetry?

Great poets are reincarnated and reading their best loved poems, in a vintage "old scratchy" style. Here is my Edgar Allan Poe Top Four.

Jim Clark is a video- and photographer, computer animator, sound recordist and archivist of acoustic music and – being a poet himself – poetry. London based, he is of an English-Irish descent.

“Poetry Animations” is one of his  wonderful YouTube Channels, dedicated to virtual animated movies with great (reincarnated) poets reading their best loved poems.

The Raven

The recording was taken from a public domain audio website. This narrative poem, first published in January 1845, is noted for its stylized musicality, its rhythm, its stylized language and supernatural atmosphere. A talking raven comes to visit a distraught lover, who is slowly descending into madness while lamenting the loss of his loved Lenore, who he will see “nevermore”. “The Raven” has become one of the most famous poems ever written.

Great article, I’ve visited Edgar Allen Poe’s grave many times. He’s buried in Baltimore, Maryland near fayette & greene streets and on the anniversary of his death people will leave bottles of booze on his gravesite….That’s my hometown trivia. :)

Great article, Patrick. I have listened to a taping of Poe’s reading before and I found it a bit eerie, but still, fascinating to hear. One of my favorite Poe poems is, Spirits of the Dead.
