“The Blue Carbuncle” is the strange story about a couple of thieves, a goose and a precious stone.“The Three Students” is set in one the famous University Town (Oxford or Cambridge). In 1893 Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson happen to be there. Mr. Hilton Soames of St. Luke’s comes to see Sherlock Holmes to ask his advice on a delicate matter. He is an examiner for an important scholarship and the first of the examination papers, a passage of Greek for translation, has been copied by an unknown person, most probably a student, whilst it was in his care.
