Wait and Hope: An Analysis of The Count of Monte Cristo

One of Alexandre Dumas’ greatest pieces of literature is The Count of Monte Cristo. It is a classical novel with elements of adventure, romance, and betrayal, filled with plot twists and, more important, themes of life. As the Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantes experienced much cruelty in the world. As an innocent, kind hearted man, he loses his loved one, spends 20 years in prison, his previous life…gone. Yet at the end of the novel, he wishes to impart two words, Wait and Hope.
