Review of Angels and Demons

Review of the Dan Brown’s famous novel.

Angels and Demons is another mystery novel by Dan Brown. After reading the novel, I found it quite similar to his previous novel “Da Vinci Code”. But the thing about Angels and Demons is that it fully involves the person in itself. But in many ways ill consider the latest novel to be better than his bestselling “Da Vinci Code”. The suspense in the whole novel is well handled but too many details about the past of few characters as well as slow moving story between successes in finding an answer to puzzles is where it loses. Angels and Demons reflect that Dan Brown has matured up as a writer after “Da Vinci Code”. Looking at the popularity gained by the novel, a movie with the same name is scheduled to be released in 15th May, 2009.

The main character of the story line in the novel is Robert Langdon, the same name as in “Da Vinci Code”. Moreover reference to Roman Catholic Church, secret societies is also taken from the previous novel. Robert Langdon is a professor at Harvard University of art history and religious iconology. The main plot of the story is where he tries to stop the destruction of the Vatican City by a secret society. Leonardo Vetra, who is a respected physicists is found murdered in his quarter by the director of CERN, Maximilian Kohler. Kohler finds Vetra’s one eye dislodged and illuminati branded on his chest. So Kohler contacts Robert to assist him in getting the murderer as Robert is an expert with illuminati.

After finding the symbol on Kohler’s chest, Robert gets frightened as the symbol belongs to a secret society which was believed to be finished long ago. So the thought that the secret society is back again, disturbs Robert. Later Vittoria, Kohler’s adopted daughter is called on to the scene. It is found that a dangerous substance canister which is comparable to a nuclear bomb is also stolen from there. The problem occurs when it is found that the bomb is placed in Vatican City and the countdown of the bomb is ticking with a security camera showing it.

To stop the bomb from destroying the Vatican City, Robert and Vittoria reach Vatican City where they found that pope died. Because of the death, a new pontiff is to be elected but the cardinals are went missing who are the likely candidates to be elected. So both Robert and Vittoria begin their search for Preferiti, in a hope that they will encounter canister as well. Following this, the story takes many twists and turns that keep the suspense going and finally Robert manages to prevent the bomb to burst within time. After this the story begins which is the main part of the story. But to keep the suspense going on, do read the novel. For all the people who found “Da Vinci Code” a good novel, would find Angels and Demons to be better. It is highly recommended for people who love to read plot driven novels as well as the ones with full of thrills.

hey idiot you might want to figure out when a book is published before you write a review…seeing that it was written and published BEFORE the da vince code

I was under the impression that though da vinci was his first better known book, he actually wrote angels first.

I thought it might be an idea to let the author of this review in on a few “secrets” to these novels: Angels and Demons were written BEFORE The Da Vinci Code, it also takes place BEFORE The Da Vinci Code does. If this reviewer had read this novel or the Da vinci Code he/she would have known this. It is clearly implied in the books.
Anyway, it is a good book. I think it is better than The Da Vinci Code, and that I swallowed in a few days.

“…Angels and Demons reflect that Dan Brown has matured up as a writer after “Da Vinci Code”…”

Much like actually READING novels before writing reviews about them would show that ‘Rodallega’ has matured as a book critic.

Yeah I agree that “Angels and Demons” was a much better book and I am really looking forward to see if they can continue to keep that up in the movie.

Also, its not the writer of the articles fault that they didn’t know this book came out first. Its not like the cover of the book says, “Before THE DAVINCI CODE was broken…”

Yes this novel came out before the da Vinci’s Code but in due respect to the reviewer, allow him first to air his sidemof the story before posting some harsh remarks which I think is inappropriate at this time.

Seriously, are you dense or what? What about the frigin flashbacks in The DaVinci Code didn’t you get when you read Angels and Demons? You know where the flashbacks were from? Can you guess?

Thats right Angels and DEMONS! You are a tool!

There’s no reason to call her an idiot. If you don’t like her article, keep it to yourself. I’ve read lots of Rodallega’s articles and like them. There’s no reason to be mean!

I’ve never read this book. I’ll have to give it a look.

what bothers me is something i read in a wikipedia article which states that the fundamental crux of the book’s plot: a camera transmitting the image of a hidden container counting down to an explosion in real time is flawed both by the constraints of our current technology, and by common sense.

    1) Any signal being broadcast, audio or visual, can be traced back to its original source by a reasonably skilled engineer or team thereof.

2)Technology able to determine the lifespan of a battery to within one second (in this case, the canister keeping the antimatter stable) DOES NOT EXIST.

Please note that these are not the historical inaccuracy complaints that plague both this book and the da vinci code. the aforementioned IMPOSSIBILITIES prevent the book from being plausible, as the laws of physics as we currently understand them are totally ignored.

Other than than, an exciting read. Good article. Don’t listen to these guys with their sticks up their butts about which book came first. They’re stand-alone stories, for the most part, so it doesn’t matter.

I really liked the book, it`s actually on my top favourites list :D In my opinion it`s definitely better than the da Vinci code. I also read the digital fortress but Angels and Demons is the best from D.Brown. It`s complex, great characters and action. A bit too over the top in some parts, a bit too unrealistic but ok though :D awesome book :D

Much has been said about technology in this book, the unlikeliness of someone falling three miles with nothing but a tarp and surviving etc. But what I found most annoying about this story was Carmelengo Ventresca. At the beginning, he’s portrayed (and we head-hop into his head, like we do with everyone else) and see a dedicated, hard-working, sane and kind man. In the last 100 pages it turns out that he was barking mad the whole time. That just doesn’t fit to me.

It read to me as if Dan Brown had another ending in mind and his editor said, ‘look, no, that’s not going to work. You’ll need to write a different ending’, and he came up with Ventresca being mad. Not even going mad; being it in the first place.

And, no matter how strong the camerlengo’s faith was, him going insane over the Pope having a child just didn’t level with me. That doesn’t tip a sane person over the edge, especially someone with a few years under their belt, like Ventresca did.

I’ve just started TDVC; I hope it’ll be an alright book, but I’m not holding out much hope.
