Today’s Best Authors

This short article discusses several of the best horror authors that are still writing today.

Who are today’s best horror writers?  Obviously the first person that comes to mind would be Stephen King.  How could you not choose this one considering his prolific career.  What other writer has had virtually all of his novels and a good many of his short stories turned into motion pictures or television mini-series.   What makes King so great is not this fact though, it is how every book is actually better than the movie.  When I read any of King’s novels or short stories I get so drawn into the plot that I can actually envision the scenes taking place in my head and then when I watch the movie it just never seems to match up with what I think King was portraying.  This is not to say that all of King’s movies were poorly made, I actually enjoyed a good many of them, I’m just saying that so far I have not found one where the movie was better than the book.  One other thing that stands out for me when reading King’s novels is his grasp of so many subjects.  Although King is generally classified as a horror author (which most of his works are), he also has shown he can write incredible love, drama, and just real life novels along with the gore.  All in all, I would have to vote for Stephen King for the best modern horror author that is still publishing today.

Coming in second place to King would have to be Dean Koontz for the next best modern horror author.   This guy is the master of suspense.  Incredible writer who really puts you into the action with realistic characters and everyday settings.  You can really feel like the situations that his characters encounter in his books could be you in your daily life.   Now, for third place, I would have to go with John Saul.  I have been reading this author since I was a kid and still love his novels.  The one thing that sets apart Saul from the other two horror authors is he deals primarily with young children and teenagers in his stories while both Koontz and King deal with people of all ages in theirs.

That concludes my opinions on the top three horror authors that are writing today.
